In 1901, Kobayashi Tamisaku I opened the Kamibayashi Hot Spring in Nagano Prefecture, and the ryokan was renamed “Jinpyokaku” by Kensumi Suematsu, who visited the ryokan the next year. Since then, the inn has been deeply patronized by many writers and artists, including Soseki Natsume, Akiko Yosano, Fumiko Hayashi, Yasunari Kawabata, and many others.
